Josh Porter graduated from Milton High School in 1998 and returned in 2015 to join the MHS faculty! After MHS, Josh graduated from the Citadel in 2002. He played rugby in Australia, New Zealand, and Aspen, Colorado. He also coached wrestling for fifteen years. He was the MHS Head Varsity Wrestling Coach before stepping down to be able to spend more time with his son who was born in late 2019. Josh was named the MHS Teacher of the Month in May 2020. He is currently the Adapted Physical Education teacher at Milton working with students with special needs and disabilities in the Community Based Instruction (CBI) program. Anyone who sees Josh with his students is immediately aware of how much his students love him and how much he loves them!

While a student at Milton, Josh was on the Student Council, the Football team, and the Wrestling team. He was the Captain of the wrestling team and Region Champ his senior year. He was on the football team in 1996 when Milton beat Roswell for the first time in 14 years! When he thinks about the time while he was in high school, he says he was hanging out with friends, “mudding,” and watching movies. He remembers he and his friends trying to dress like they were on “90210.”

Josh’s favorite classes at Milton were AP U.S. Government with Mrs. Jackie Angel because he enjoyed talking about politics and Outdoor Education because he liked making campfires and learning about fishing with Coach Glenn Stephens. He said “Coach Stephens is the reason I’m a teacher and coach today! He made learning and playing football fun!” He also loved getting the Red Envelopes at graduation and Steak Night Wednesdays with the offensive line football players. He and some of his football buddies still get together every so often for Steak Night. When asked about his time at Milton, Josh said “I loved being a student at Milton High School. It was so much fun playing football and wrestling in a community that supported us!”
