Lindsey Gerheim - Class of 2003
In 2008, after serving in her first duty station at Fort Campbell, KY, then Second Lieutenant Gerheim would deploy to Bayji, Iraq for 15-months on her first combat tour overseas to train Iraqi Police in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Later, Captain Gerheim would earn her master’s degree, take Company Command, and in 2013 deploy again, this time from Joint Base Lewis McChord, WA to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. There, her unit of 170 Soldiers was responsible for the security of all high-value detainees and commissions, earning her unit the Army’s Superior Unit Award. As a Captain, Lindsey also trained the Army’s newest Military Police Officers at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, and in 2016 was selected to attend the FBI National Academy. In 2016, Captain Gerheim left for her third tour overseas to Kuwait where she served as Aide-de-Camp for the Army Central Command’s Deputy Commander and worked with US Ambassadors and host nation military leaders in support of security initiatives across 20 Middle Eastern nations. Most recently, Major Gerheim returned to Columbus and Savannah, GA to serve as an Executive and Operations officer supporting 700 Army Special Agents investigating felony crimes in service of over one million military personnel and their families across five continents.
With almost 18 years in uniform as a cadet and Army officer, Lindsey has moved cross-country over 15 times, received incredible training opportunities from SWAT school to rappelling from helicopters, earned Army awards including her Bronze Star, Combat Action Badge, and Military Outstanding Volunteer Service medals. But what Lindsey is most proud of is the privilege to lead, serve, and humbly learn from US Army Soldiers.
While at Milton, Lindsey earned 12 varsity letters playing Softball and Basketball and running Track. Her softball prowess at MHS led to more softball awards at West Point. At MHS, Lindsey was also the school mascot, Eddie the Eagle. She was chosen to attend Girls State and was a member of the National Honor Society, the Student Council, Young Life, Anchor Club, Key Club, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Some of Lindsey’s favorite memories from MHS are playing softball with her teammates who trained, sweated, and thrived on the field together and having her parents in the stands for every game as her #1 fans, attending one of the school dances with teammates in their dirty softball uniforms, and annual Junior/Senior wars and Powder Puff games.
